Butler Adventures: Fossil Rim

Over the weekend we loaded up and headed to Granbury, Texas to celebrate my mom's birthday.

Baker packed himself a bag and grabbed his map.

Then he took a little snooze in the car.

We rented a house on the lake and joined up with the rest of my family minus my sister and her family. Her husband was called out to an emergency at work so they weren't able to come.

I just love Baker's sense of fashion!

We made a quick trip to the grocery store and Baker wasn't very happy about his riding buddy. He normally LOVES Mike so I'm not sure why this was so dramatic. About half way to the store he said "Mama, will you wipe away my tears now."

After enjoying some pizza, we sang happy birthday and ate cake!

One of my best friends from high school lives in Graham and her little family joined us for the evening too. I wish I would have taken a picture!

Bright and early Saturday morning, we headed out the door to Fossil Rim. It is located 30 miles away outside of Glen Rose, Texas.

Fossil Rim is a wildlife and conservation park on 1,800 acres. It is home to 1,000 animals; 50 different species of native and non native animals.

You can either drive your own car through the park or do a tour. Since we had a big group we decided to do a family tour so we could all be together.

The tour was an open air bus and it was great so they kids could move around a bit.

You get a cup of feed to use during the tour too.

Baker was pumped about his cup!

When did my baby turn into a little boy?

There were lots of giraffes and even a baby one.

They have a very successful cheetah breeding program at the park too.

This mama cheetah was very interested in a baby on our tour. She paced the fence the entire time we were there.

The tour went by the giraffe area several times.

Barret loved giving food to Fisher to throw. They both got the biggest kick out of this. They were throwing food in areas where there were no animals.

This Ostrich had a nice dinner buffet off the side of the bus and almost took off Mike's finger.

birthday girl and sweet Hollis.
Our kids moved around the entire trip!

Feeding the giraffes was the highlight of the trip. Everyone loved it. Prepare yourself for tons of pictures!

Look at sweet Fisher with his hand out! Brave boy!

He had so much fun!

We had the best time! I would highly recommend a trip to Fossil Rim. The tour was 2 1/2 hours and there were no stops so plan accordingly. (aka don't drink a lot of water!) They also tell you not to bring any snacks.
We let Fisher sneak a little snack because he was "starving." Shhhh don't tell.

Come back tomorrow for part 2 of our birthday adventure!
