Monkey Business: Curious George

It's Friday! And today is all about one of my kids' FAVORITE characters!

GEORGE!!

Let me explain...

This is my sweet cousin Alyssa!
She has been working on some extremely cool projects at work!

One of them is a documentary about the authors of Curious George. Is George loved in your house like he is in mine? My boys go crazy for this curious little monkey.

I think I've read this book 120983 million times and watched "the pumpkin patch Curious George" on netflix approximately 129083 million times.

When Alyssa first started posting about the documentary, I followed along and liked the posts on social media because I'm a firm believer in supporting family. But the more she posted, the more curious I became. The story behind Hans and Margaret Reys is enthralling. They were German Jews who narrowly escaped the Nazis. They carried the unfinished manuscript of the original Curious George with them on make-shift bicycles as they fled the country. You can see more of their story over on their kickstarter campaign page.

Take a few minutes and watch the short video. Ema Ryan Yamazaki, the director, is beyond adorable!

You can see another fun article over at People Magazine.

Let's show Ema, Alyssa and the rest of the Monkey Business crew some support by stopping by their Kickstarter page and sharing their posts on social media!

You can find them on instagram and on facebook!

Happy weekend friends!

What's Up Wednesday 7/27/16

I'm linking up for What's Up Wednesday with my girls Shay and Sheaffer.

1. What we are eating this week
This yummy zucchini bread!

2. What I'm reminiscing about

Fisher turns two in less than two weeks!! Where did the time go?

3. What I'm loving

Austin loves The Bourne series. Since it's his birthday week, we've been watching the movies at night! We watched The Bourne Identity on our first date in 2006.

4. What we've been up to

We just got back from Napa! I'm going to blog all the details next week, but for now here is a teaser!

5. What I'm dreading
I can't think of a single thing!!

6. What I'm working on
Help!!?! What should I be working on? I know there is something.

7. What I'm excited about

Next week we are headed to a builder's conference! And guess who the main speakers are?!?!

8. What I'm watching/reading
I just finished up The Maze Runner series. I am just going to be honest, it was not my favorite. I actually started hating it about halfway through the second book. Anyone else feel that way? The only reason I finished is because I was committed and had to know the ending.

(click on the picture to take you to the book summary on amazon)

9. What I'm listening to

We listen to two kinds of music in our house, daddy music and mommy music. According to Baker daddy music is country. Mommy music is anything you can dance to!

10. What I'm wearing

I have several of these tops from last year and I wear them all the time! Grab a few while they are on sale.

And while you are at it, these pleione tanks are on sale for less than $20. They are a summer staple.

11. What I'm doing this weekend
Miss Katie is coming to visit!

We saw her briefly last week before we headed on our vacation, but we are excited to spend more time with her.

12. What I'm looking forward to next month

Austin and I are headed to a builder's conference. (see #7)  YAY! I'm so excited to go learn a little bit and enjoy some time with Austin. I'm getting spoiled with all this alone time with him!

13. What else is new
We have been busy busy busy!! Just in case you missed it, I'm writing a weekly post for The Abilene Post! You can catch my latest post right here.

Bonus:
What was your favorite part about summer?

I loved our summer vacations! It's fun to get away and just have fun! I love being removed from our daily schedule and just enjoying each other.

In June we hit the beach with our kids.

And obviously we just got back from Napa! And it was amazing.

That's it for today folks! Happy Wednesday!

Farmer's Market Zucchini Bread

Last week we headed to the Abilene Farmer's Market.  It was a fun family outing, and we love supporting our local farmers. If you come back on Saturday, you can read my full post about the farmer's market over at The Abilene Post.

After seeing tables full of zucchini, I was inspired to hurry home and make some zucchini bread.

I put my own spin on it and here is what I created. It was delicious with the perfect amount of sweetness and spice.

Ingredients:

3 eggs
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup oil
4 tsp vanilla
2-4 cups shredded zucchini
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp baking powder
3 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cloves
1/2 cup applesauce
1 cup chopped nuts (I used walnuts)
1/2 an apple chopped

Preheat over to 350 degrees
1. In the bowl of your stand mixer, mix all the ingredients together except for the zucchini, nuts and apple.
2. Shred the zucchini.
2. Chop the apple into small cubes.
3. Add Zucchini and apple to the mixer and mix it all together on medium speed.
4. Lightly chop the nuts of your choice and gentle add to the batter (optional)
5. Prepare your loaf pans. Generously butter (or crisco) the pans and flour them.
6. Divide between two loaf pans.
7. Bake for 40-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center of the loaf.

-Makes 2 loaves

Cut a big piece, and enjoy your zucchini bread or as Baker calls it zucandy bread.

Delicious!

Walmart Grocery Pickup

Morning friends! I have some exciting news for you today! Did you know Walmart offers a curbside grocery service? If you live in a bigger town you've probably had access to it for awhile, but it's new for us here in Abilene, Texas. I highlighted my experience over at The Abilene Post, and you can read all about it here. The short summary is I was very impressed, and I will be using this service again. (still go read it! Pretty please!) There are lots of good information and specifics in my post!

Here is what the pickup area looked like in Abilene. I pulled up, and called the number. Then they brought out my groceries to me!

All while Fisher did this....

Charles, my new best friend, wheeled my groceries out in these big blue baskets. It had a layering system of baskets so nothing was smashed. He loaded me up, and I was out of the parking lot 7 minutes after I pulled up.

I headed home, and unpacked. Here are my actual groceries.

Bananas were slightly green. (my favorite!)

I didn't find a single bruise on my apples.

The orange juice and cheese were cold.

They even placed fragile stickers over bag handles for certain items.

I needed wipes!

And several random items from around the store. I'm so thankful I didn't have to go track down all these goodies.

The only downside for me was all the plastic grocery sacks. We typically bring our reusable bags to the store.

Overall I was very impressed. I'm not typically a Walmart shopper. I've only been a few times in the last year, but I'm hooked now. I didn't have to leave my car, and it was quick! There were no tears and I didn't have to sweat. All of this is a win for me!

I will probably start ordering all my boxed items (cereal, breakfast bars, crackers etc) from Walmart. It will also be a great place to order household goods and other essentials. Then I can pop over to my favorite grocery store to pick out my own meats and produce. It'll cut down on my grocery time and still give my the flexibility to buy the quantity and quality of goods that I want. On busy weeks, I'll let Walmart do all my shopping!!
