Friday Favorites 2.25.16

Happy Friday friends!! It's time for Friday favorites with Erika, Narci and Andrea!

1. Bubble baths- My boys love bubble baths! Bath time is always fun but if you add a few bubble it is their favorite!

2. Car naps - I love it when my boys sleep in the car. We headed to Mckinney this week for a visit. It's a little over 3 hours. I buckled everyone in and prayed we didn't need a potty break. Baker fought hard but about an hour into the trip he took a good little nap! It's my favorite to ride in a peaceful quiet car. Most of the time I even forget to turn on the radio because I am just enjoying the silence so much!

3. Former Co-workers - I headed up to McKinney Boyd to visit all my friends on Thursday. I can't believe I didn't take any pictures! But I did snap this one of Fisher.

Any guesses what he is doing?!?! I was talking to my friend Shana while her students were doing a stations lab, Fisher tripped and just laid down on the floor and didn't move. I think he was embarrassed because he fell in a classroom with 30 teenagers watching him. They all thought he was hilarious and took pictures of him laying on the ground. Ha! poor baby. He didn't move for a full minute. I  really don't blame him, I probably would have just laid down too!

4. Friends!!
This is Baker's friend Olivia. These two are having the BEST time together.

And Fisher is enjoying himself too!

And baby Patrick!

I met Patrick and Olivia's mom, Jamie, in 2004. We were both selected to go on the Texas Electric Cooperative's Government-in-Action Youth Tour.  We headed to Washinton D.C. for a week with 100 other Texas teens. Jamie and I ended up being roommates and friends for life! A few years ago (thanks to facebook!) we realized we lived down the road from each other in McKinney. How fun is that?  They are one of our favorite families and I'm so thankful they let us come stay with them for a few days!

5. You will be happy to know that I have already eaten at 2 of my favorite spots, Panera and Durkins Pizza! Thank goodness we finished The Daniel Plan last week.

Baker was pretty excited about his m&m's cookie! We've been struggling with behavior so I was very nervous to take him on a trip alone this week, but he has been really well behaved. Let's pray his good behavior sticks!

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!!

What's up Wednesday

I'm linking up with Shay and Sheaffer for What's up Wednesday!

What I'm excited about:
I am headed to McKinney with the boys this week! I am so excited about this trip! We haven't been back since we moved in July. I can't wait to see my people and hug their necks! I'm preparing myself for some tears to flow too. Moving is so hard and I miss them all very much.

What we're eating this week:
We are traveling a bit this week so it's kind of up in the air! I'm hoping to eat at a few places that aren't available in Abilene. Panera is calling my name and if I'm lucky maybe some Durkins pizza too!

What I'm reminiscing about:
Naturally I have been thinking about our time living in McKinney. We spent 7 years there. It's the place we have lived the longest besides our childhood homes.

What I'm loving:
I am loving Fisher's stage right now! He is so much fun and his little personality is really blossoming.

What we've been up to:
We have been sick sick sick over here! I think it was flu! Yuck! We have been taking it very slow! But after 10 days of fever we are fully functioning again! YAY!

What I'm dreading:
I am dreading all of the yard work that needs to be done this spring! There is so much to do. Luckily my hubby is taking a master gardener course so I'll just let him do all the work...kidding.

What I'm working on:
We are still working on lots of house renovations. We are really close to finishing our dining room.

What I'm excited about:
Planning our summer trip to Napa!

What I'm watching/reading:

Last week, I talked last week about the shows I am currently watching.

I'm working my way through this book right now. It's one I have been referencing off and on for the last 3 years. You know, since about the time Baker was born! Ha. That kid!! The 3's have started off a little rocky but I know it's just a stage! right?

"You must keep a sense of humor during the twos and threes in order to preserve your own sanity." - Dobson

What I'm listening to:
I spend very little time in the car, so when I'm listening at home I use Pandora. Our stations of choice are Texas country and classic country.

What I'm wearing:
Lots of comfy clothes and my blardigan.

What I'm doing this weekend:
Hanging out with some of my favorite people in McKinney! This is also my first time to take my boys somewhere alone that isn't to a family members house. I might need a bazillion extra prayers!

What I'm looking forward to next month:
One of my favorite people has a big birthday next month! I can't wait to celebrate her! We have a really fun family weekend planned.

What's your favorite Easter tradition?
We haven't really established any of our own special traditions for Easter. Church has always been a big part of Easter for me and I always enjoying spending time with family!

Happy Wednesday Friends!

The Daniel Plan week 5-6

We have officially completed 40 days of the Daniel Plan!!! WAHOO!!!

Let's discuss the last 40 days!

1. I would never try to start this plan without a support group. FRIENDS are crucial is making this plan successful. Even if it's just one person! If you are married or have roommates beg them to join you! It will be a lot easier on everyone.

2. FAITH - The entire process wouldn't exist without this crucial part. Lots of prayer went into the last 40 days. Not to mention this 40 days coincided with Baker turning three. The terrible threes are so real. Lots of prayers have gone into that too.

3. I have had so much fun working out with Austin. The FITNESS portion has really made a difference in the way I feel on a daily basis. Minus being sick this week, we have been consistently working out for 8 weeks now.

4. FOCUS - We all need to renew our mind and get ourselves grounded in Godly principles to be successful in anything. If we don't do these things the enemy will creep in and destroy our spirit. Listen, it is important that you don't let the enemy in during this plan. He might convince you that you need that cookie or ice cream in order to be happy.

5. The biggest thing we have talked about during this study was FOOD. I think because it is the most dramatic aspect for people. Here are my thoughts on what we will keep and what we will ditch. Remember these are MY thoughts.

confession - I always try to eat healthy and make good decisions but this is the first time I have ever attempted any plan. I am super proud of myself for sticking with it for 40 days.

- My taste buds changed. I don't need things to be sweetened and I had an m&m this weekend and it was WAY too sweet. It's amazing how our taste buds can change based on the foods we are eating.

- I really enjoyed eating the 70+% cacao chocolate. This will be a keeper in our house for sure!

- I love oatmeal for breakfast. I like to add cinnamon, apples and walnuts.

- I could not eat enough "spicy" popcorn!

- I am so ready to add some dairy back to our diet. The plan doesn't require you to cut it out for the entire 40 days but we set that as a goal for our house.

-I am ready to have a little more variety back to our lunch times! We ate a lot of eggs and I think I need a little egg break!

- I have become really addicted to tea the last 40 days! I already drank hot tea every morning but now I like to drink unsweetened coconut tea in the afternoons too. It became my special treat and I love it.

- The entire plan is all about building a lifestyle. We are pretty passionate about a healthy lifestyle.

-I didn't really lose a lot of weight. I lost 3-5 pounds depending on the day but was hoping to lose at least 6 pounds. That would have put me back to pre-baby weight. I will say that more than pounds, I think I lost inches. I wish I would have taken measurements before we started but I can tell a difference in the way my clothes fit.

Our main goal moving forward is to live by a 90/10 rule:
-eat healthy 90% of the time.
-splurge and enjoy the other 10% without guilt!

All of that being said, I am so glad we participated in The Daniel Plan with our entire church. Since we just moved to Abilene, 7 months ago, we are still finding our place. Doing this plan really developed a sense of belonging and community for us. It allowed us to have a common denominator to start conversations with new friends. It's something I would do again! But for now I might enjoy a little food freedom!

Week 1 / Week 2 / Week 3 / Week 4
Thanks for coming along this 40 day journey with me!

Friday Favorites: What We've Been Watching

Hey Friends! It's time for Friday favorites with Erika, Narci and Andrea.

This week has been extremely LONG! Baker ran fever all week. So since we couldn't leave our house, we watched a lot of TV. Yikes! Please don't judge! We did lots of playing too and I read a book.

Mom confession: sometimes when I get tired of watching their shows, I watch something on my ipad while sitting with them. Anyone else do this? If I get up to do something they follow me because they want mama. So that's my little mom trick. I also know they won't want me to sit with them forever.

Just for fun let's talk about some of my new favorite things to watch.

1. When Calls the Heart - It is a hallmark show. I stumbled upon it last week on Netflix. It is really clean and I wouldn't mind my kids watching it. (how many shows can we say that about these days?) The story line is kind of slow but I think part of that is because of the era it takes place. I think it's similar to Downton Abbey as far as pace goes.

It is set in 1910 and follows the story of Elizabeth Thatcher. She is a teacher who moves to a small mining town called Coal Valley. Elizabeth is from a wealthy family and has to adjust to life a much rougher life.  You can read more about the plot here.

You can watch the first 2 seasons on Netflix and season 3 starts on Sunday 2.21. Now remember it is a Hallmark show so it is a little corny too.  And let's also note that Elizabeth has fabulous hair for living in early 1910s in a town with limited resources.

2. Grease LIVE - Did you catch it a few weeks ago on Fox? I somehow missed they were even doing it. I guess that's what happens when you don't have cable. Luckily for me, it was on Hulu. They did a fabulous job. Grease was one of my very favorite movies growing up and I can sing every single word to every song.

I also read that Vanessa Hudgens' dad died the evening before and she still performed. I was extra impressed with her. She was fabulous as Rizzo. Over all I give the an A+! I enjoyed watching their performance.

3. Speaking of childhood favorites, Star Wars was my brothers.

He loaned us his collection a few weeks ago and Austin and I have been watching them at night. We've really enjoyed making our way through them.

4.  Madame Secretary - One of my very favorite people in the word, Patricia, recommended this show. It's another one we've been watching on Netflix at night.
It's a serious show and one that I like to give my full attention to when I'm watching. We are still on the first season but we are really enjoying it. It's hard for us to find shows we both enjoy but this one seems to work for us both!

5. The number one show watched around our house is:

Any fun shows you wanna share with me? I'm always looking for something new!

And make sure you go check out our dining room progress!

Weekend Recap

We started our weekend off with a quick zoo trip to meet some friends!

Then we waited for some of our favorite people to arrive!

On Saturday, we took them to eat at Perini Ranch Steakhouse.

Lauren and Mallory are two of my college roommates. (and sleeping Fisher)

This meal was a little far from The Daniel plan, but let me just tell you, it was AMAZING.

If I'm going to have a cheat meal, I want it to be a really good one. Austin ordered their award winning hamburger. It won best hamburger in 2009 on The Today Show. I ordered, Jason's crispy chicken sandwich and then we split them. Both were outstanding, but in my opinion the chicken sandwich won!  It was the best chicken sandwich I have ever eaten.  I am already planning when I can go back.  We also split the green chili hominy as a side. DELICIOUS!

HA!! Ok sorry. I am going to stop talking about food because now I am HUNGRY!

Side note - Remember the sweet baby from the first picture? I was in her mommy and daddy's wedding and Perini's is where their rehearsal dinner was held about 10 years ago.

After lunch we enjoyed the weather outside.

And then headed home to play some more!

Mallory's husband, Grant, came too and my boys LOVE him!

Fisher kept stealing Grant's hat. The boys had the best time!

We made a fire and enjoyed our time with friends. I am so thankful they came to visit!

Shiplap Dining Room

Our dining room is so close to being finished! Austin finished up all the shiplap and we installed new lighting. The room still has a few small projects left but I LOVE the direction it is heading. It is light and bright and easily my favorite room in the house.

Do you spy our new lighting?

We installed this chandelier and 5 recessed can lights.

Do you remember how dark this room was before?

I don't know about you, but I prefer the white shiplap any day! And I do not miss that ceiling fan either.

Yes so much better!

Hopefully the next post will be a fully finished dining room! I'm really loving this space and I hope you are too! Thanks for coming on this little tour with me!
